INFINITE’s Woohyun and Sungwoon are stirring up the live singing debate in K-Pop.
On the latest episode of K Star Next Door, the two idols made clear that idols need to sing live. Sungwoon said straight up,
“Now, idols need to sing live.”
Woohyun backed him up with an honest take:
“We’re not dancers. We sing and dance. We’re K-pop singers.”
INFINITE are known for delivering live vocals without heavy reliance on lip syncing or AR.
Sungwoon added that even if your voice cracks or goes flat, it’s cooler because fans hear the real vocals.
They put their money where their mouth is by singing DAY6’s “You Were Beautiful” in a higher key during the show, impressing fans with their raw talent.
Fans online are firing back at the industry trend of lip syncing and heavy AR use. Comments like:
-
“Seriously, someone had to say it… A little off-pitch or a small mistake—so what? That’s the whole point of watching live performances.”
-
“Music shows are boring these days because they just lipsync and rely on facial expressions. I watch and wonder—what am I even watching?”
- “Stop relying on AR and sing with your real voice. A cracked note is better than that.”
INFINITE are being praised as role models for keeping it real with their vocals and performances.
The controversy over live singing vs. lip syncing in K-pop is gaining traction again, with Woohyun and Sungwoon calling out the industry norms loudly.
