Leading Korean Celebrity Issues Public Apology Over Misleading Advertising Scandal

Top Korean Star Publicly Apologizes For False Advertising Controversy

Comedian Jung Joo Ri faces backlash over false ad claims on beauty product

Comedian Jung Joo Ri apologized on August 8, 2025, amid allegations of false advertising tied to a beauty product she promoted on YouTube.

The controversy erupted after the brand claimed its products were “Australian cosmetics.” It was later revealed the manufacturer is actually based in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The brand’s wrinkle improvement cream and other items are under fire for exaggerated or false marketing.

Jung posted on social media:

“I sincerely apologize to those who were hurt because of the brand I recently appeared in advertisements for. After the ad was uploaded, I received negative reports about the brand through various channels. I repeatedly expressed that I could not participate in advertisements containing false content, such as the phrase ‘famous in Australia,’ and requested that the ad be deleted. This was reflected. Knowing that there were people who trusted me and purchased the product, I feel a heavy sense of responsibility. I can only say I am truly sorry to those who believed in me.”

Jung Joo Ri rose to fame through Gag Concert and is known for her sharp humor and variety show appearances.

The controversy gained traction as singer Bada was also found promoting the same product. On August 5, Bada issued a handwritten apology and announced a hiatus from YouTube to reflect on the situation.

The situation remains under close watch as public scrutiny intensifies around both celebrities’ involvement in the misleading ad campaign.
