Lee Sangwon is facing backlash after videos of him clubbing before Boys II Planet aired went viral.
The former BIGHIT MUSIC trainee, now a contestant under GRID Entertainment, was filmed dancing at DOZE Club in Hongdae on April 14. This was just weeks before the survival show’s premiere.
Korean netizens are slamming Sangwon’s clubbing, questioning his professionalism and readiness as an idol.
A popular post on Instiz sparked the criticism, sharing short clips of Sangwon at the club.
Some fans defended him, saying clubbing doesn’t define character. But most comments scolded him harshly:
“Honestly, in today’s idol scene, it might be better for everything to blow up at once.”
“What do people mean by ‘he’s just a regular person, so it doesn’t matter’? Unless they’re already under contract, all trainees are technically regular people lol. A regular person causing a scandal is still a scandal. It’s worse that he acted like that while planning to become an idol — that’s what’s crazy to me.”
“We’re in an era where even with scandals, people still have fans… lol.”
“Everyone’s just pretending not to see it at this point.”
“Seems like companies are fine with it since they’re gonna debut and bail anyway lol.”
The situation is gaining traction online as netizens monitor the fallout. Neither Lee Sangwon nor GRID Entertainment have yet commented on the controversy.
