Madly Medley festival sparks outrage with ₩8.88 million ‘1% ticket’
The Madly Medley music festival in Korea is facing backlash over a ₩8.88 million KRW (about $6,400 USD) ticket price. The “1% ticket” sparked controversy as soon as sales opened.
Taking place October 18-19 at Paradise City, Incheon, standard prices were ₩118,000 KRW (about $85) for one day, ₩148,000 KRW ($107) for two days, and ₩248,000 KRW ($179) for VIP. But the “1% ticket” offered exclusive perks, including main stage viewing, special entry and exit, unlimited alcohol, merchandise, and an after-party invite.
The organizers, Culture Think, admitted some artists might restrict main stage access for safety, adding to confusion.
Netizens slammed the ticket price online, and sales were quickly suspended. Culture Think issued an apology and canceled the “1% ticket” option.
We deeply empathize with the concerns and criticisms many have raised regarding the 1% ticket. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and inconvenience caused by our insufficient explanation and lack of detailed preparation.
— Culture ThinkSales of the 1% ticket have now been suspended across all platforms, and full refunds will be provided to those who have already purchased it through individual contact. We once again sincerely apologize for the disappointment caused by this incident. We will carefully reflect on this and make improvements to create a healthier and more trustworthy festival culture.
