Son Dambi is facing backlash after revealing her husband, former speed skater Lee Kyu Hyuk, secretly wanted children despite their initial plan to be a DINK (Dual Income, No Kids) couple.
The controversy began during a candid YouTube interview where Son Dambi said they agreed to live as DINKs after marrying in 2022. But about a year later, Lee started hinting he wanted kids through what she first thought were jokes.
“Originally, we planned to live as DINK. My husband is five years older than me, and we thought it would be fine to spend our later years just the two of us. However, about a year into their marriage, Lee began subtly expressing his desire to have children, initially disguised as joking comments during drinking sessions. At first, I thought he was joking and brushed it off lightly, but he was serious.”

Netizens slammed Lee for deceiving Son Dambi and accused him of pressuring her into motherhood. Many sympathized with Son Dambi emphasizing she has no plans for a second child, while Lee reportedly wants one.
The situation sparked heated debates on social media over marital consent and parenthood pressures, with comments like:
- “If he was going to do that, then he should not have gotten married in the first place.”
- “He enticed her to marry him promising to be DINKs, then made her undergo all those medical tests. That’s fraud.”
- “He totally tricked her.”
Son Dambi and Lee Kyu Hyuk welcomed their first daughter via IVF in April 2025.
