Netizens Respond to NewJeans’ Rejection of Court’s Settlement Proposal with ADOR

NewJeans Court Hearing

NewJeans is facing controversy in their ongoing legal battle with ADOR. On June 4 KST, the second court hearing took place at the Seoul Central District Court, but the members skipped attendance, opting for representation through their legal team.

Court suggests NewJeans and ADOR settle

The court prompted both parties to consider a settlement. NewJeans firmly rejected the suggestion, stating through their legal team,

The relationship of trust has been completely shattered. We have crossed a river and can no longer return.

In contrast, ADOR responded,

If the court comes to a decision regarding this case, then a settlement will be easy enough.

NewJeans’ reason for rejecting a settlement

NewJeans claims ADOR failed to meet contractual management duties following the ousting of CEO Min Hee Jin, which they argue affected their independence. ADOR fired back, suggesting NewJeans is shifting blame, saying they’ve changed their reasoning for contract termination.

NewJeans criticized ADOR’s evidence as insufficient, arguing it doesn’t prove the agency upheld its responsibilities.

Legal constraints

Previously, the court barred NewJeans from any independent activities outside of ADOR, threatening fines of 1 billion KRW (approx. $737,779 USD) per member for violations. A third hearing is lined up for July 24.

Netizens’ reaction

Korean netizens are baffled by NewJeans’ decision to reject a settlement. Here’s what they’re saying:

"Where did Min Hee Jin’s confidence go from when she held that press conference…? What is she even doing now?"

"They could just settle, keep promoting, save money, and then start their own agency once the contract ends. No one would even know."

"Just pay the penalty, then. Why all this drama?"

Many fans are concerned about the long-term consequences, fearing the young group could end up in debt if they continue down this path.

What’s next? The pressure is on as NewJeans heads into their next court date. Can they find a way out of this mess, or will they stick to their guns? Stay tuned.
