NewJeans Chooses Not to Appeal Court Ruling on ADOR Injunction

NewJeans

NewJeans is facing controversy after deciding not to reappeal the court’s decision regarding their injunction against ADOR. This move shifts their focus to the main lawsuit over their exclusive contract termination.

Legal sources confirmed that NewJeans did not file a reappeal within the seven-day window allowed by South Korean law following the Seoul High Court’s ruling on June 17.

The court had rejected the group’s objection against an injunction, which prevents ADOR from signing any new contracts or managing them. The injunction was originally requested by NewJeans to separate themselves from the agency.

The appellate court stated,

“an individual cannot unilaterally terminate or exit a contract based on subjective reasoning.”

They ruled that internal issues at ADOR, including the removal of former CEO Min Hee Jin, didn’t justify nullifying the contracts. The ruling indicated that ADOR had not breached their production obligations.

Following the ruling, ADOR expressed their stance, stating,

“The appellate court has clearly reaffirmed that ADOR is the official management agency of NewJeans. We hope this decision paves the way for the members to return to their rightful place as part of NewJeans.”

With the injunction now in place, NewJeans is gearing up for a full-scale lawsuit to terminate their exclusive contract. They argue it’s invalid, while ADOR insists it’s legally binding.

The injunction is temporarily effective until a final decision in the ongoing lawsuit. The next hearing is scheduled for July 24, 2025.
