NewJeans is facing major controversy as they head into a legal battle with their agency, ADOR. The second court hearing took place on June 4 KST, but the members skipped court, sending their legal team instead.
When asked about a potential settlement, NewJeans’ side shot back,
“The relationship of trust has been completely shattered. We have crossed a river and can no longer return.”
ADOR countered, saying,
“If the court comes to a decision regarding this case, then a settlement will be easy enough.”
NewJeans claims that ADOR failed to meet essential management duties, particularly after Min Hee Jin’s departure. They argued that management changes diminished the group’s independence. However, ADOR suggests NewJeans is shifting their reasons for wanting to end the contracts, claiming,
“Every hearing, NewJeans changes up the reason for why they decided to terminate their exclusive contracts.”
The courtroom drama intensified as NewJeans pointed out that ADOR’s evidence was insufficient. They stated,
“If ADOR met producer Hitchhiker as claimed, then they must also disclose what matters were discussed and what were the outcomes of this meeting.”
Adding to the tension, the court previously barred NewJeans from any independent activities outside ADOR. If they breach this, each member faces fines of up to 1 billion KRW.
The next court hearing is set for July 24. Fans are eagerly watching as the situation unfolds.
