Park Bo Gum’s New K-Drama Launches with Strong Ratings Amid Criticism

Park Bo Gum's New K-Drama Debuts With Impressive Numbers... But Also Criticism

Park Bo Gum Faces Backlash for Acting in Good Boy

Park Bo Gum’s return to the small screen in Good Boy is stirring controversy. The action-comedy K-Drama, co-starring Kim So Hyun, premiered on May 31 and initially scored an average nationwide rating of 4.8 percent, according to Nielsen Korea.

The plot follows a group of former Olympic medalists who join a special force in the police, tackling violent crimes with their athletic backgrounds. Park Bo Gum plays Yoon Dong Ju, a former troublemaker now assigned to the Insung Metropolitan Police Agency.

However, public reception has been mixed. A trending post on the popular Korean forum TheQoo surpassed 110,000 views, with numerous comments criticizing the acting and directing.

“The directing and acting are both over-the-top.”
“Park Bo Gum’s acting felt a bit off, more than I expected. I don’t think comedy suits him.”
“It was so boring I fell asleep watching it…”
“Oh, I thought it was ok, though.”
“It felt excessive and childish, but if people are loving it, I guess it’s just not my taste.”

Despite decent viewership, the split opinion suggests Good Boy might face hurdles in maintaining momentum. It’ll be interesting to see if the K-Drama can win over critics as it continues to air.
