BTS’s Suga faces KBS sanction petition over DUI
A petition demanding sanctions against BTS’s Suga for his drunk driving case was posted on KBS’s Viewer Petition Board on June 23. The petitioner wants KBS to hold a broadcast appearance regulation review committee to decide on punishment for Suga’s DUI.
Last year, Suga was fined 15,000,000 KRW (~$11,007.65 USD) for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated. His blood alcohol level measured above 0.08%, a license revocation level.
The petition warns of Suga’s influence on young people and the risk of normalizing drunk driving crimes if he appears on KBS broadcasts.
“Drunk driving is a serious crime that can cause direct harm to others. He is a public figure who has a significant influence on young people, and there is concern that appearing on TV with such influence could lower social awareness of drunk driving crimes.
KBS did not hold a review committee because the investigation results were not released after the incident. He was discharged from the military on June 21, 2025, and the fine was confirmed on September 27, 2024. Please hold a review committee ASAP to secure your viewers’ trust and fulfill your responsibility as a public broadcast company.”

KBS has previously suspended actors Kwak Do Won, the late Kim Sae Ron, and singer Kim Ho Joong for drunk driving incidents.
Suga’s discharge on June 21, 2025, marks the end of all BTS members’ military service. Fans and industry watchers are now eyes on BTS’s potential music comeback.
