Lee Sun Kyun’s drug abuse case just got messier. A police officer and a prosecutor linked to the investigation were indicted for leaking confidential info to the media.
The Incheon District Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on June 5, KST, that “A,” a police officer in his 30s, and “B,” a prosecutorial investigator in his 40s, face charges for leaking official secrets.
Officer A allegedly photographed and shared investigation documents on October 18, 2023. These documents revealed names, criminal records, and professions of people involved in the case. The confidential material was sent to two journalists.
Investigator B reportedly leaked to another reporter that Lee Sun Kyun was under investigation, sparking the case to blow up publicly on October 19, 2023.
A third person, “C,” a journalist, was also indicted for violating the Personal Information Protection Act.
Lee Sun Kyun, who rose to fame with Parasite, was questioned three times by police after being booked for investigation on October 14, 2023. He was found dead on December 26, 2023.
After his death, Dispatch reported police and media colluded to publicize confidential details without fact-checking.
