Son Heung Min’s ex-girlfriend indicted for blackmail after fake pregnancy claim
A woman in her 20s, surnamed Yang, who extorted ₩300 million KRW (about $222,000 USD) from national soccer team captain Son Heung Min by threatening to expose a false pregnancy, has been indicted on charges of blackmail.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office Criminal Division 3 announced on June 10, 2025, that Yang and a man surnamed Yong, in his 40s, face charges related to attempted blackmail.
Before targeting Son, Yang tried a similar scheme on another man. She falsely claimed to be pregnant to demand money but gave up when he didn’t comply. Then she moved on to Son.
Prosecutors say Yang spent all extorted funds on luxury goods and personal expenses.
When money ran low, Yang conspired with Yong—her then-boyfriend—to ask Son for an additional ₩70 million KRW (about $51,800 USD). This attempt failed.
Initially, it was reported Yong acted alone in the second extortion attempt, but prosecutors confirmed Yang’s involvement.
Yang, Son’s former girlfriend, reportedly sent Son an ultrasound image last June to claim pregnancy and requested ₩300 million KRW.
During the payment, Yang signed a written pledge not to reveal the alleged pregnancy.
In March 2025, Yang and Yong tried again to demand money from Son, but police intervened.
