Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters sparks backlash after iconic ISAC scene was cut
Netflix’s new hit animated show, KPop Demon Hunters, is facing backlash after fans discovered a major scene was scrapped.
The show originally featured a sequence modeled after the legendary Idol Star Athletics Championships (ISAC), an iconic event for K-Pop idols. But executives didn’t understand the scene, so it was replaced with a fan signing event instead.
KPop Demon Hunters artist Henry Wong shared photos from the cut ISAC scene, showing two idol groups competing in archery and other sports before it was removed.
“Seq 1700 we had our own version of Idol Star Athletics Championships. This moment was later cut and changed to allow a smoother flow in the story.”

The change was confirmed in an interview:
“When we cut that scene in, all the executives were like, ‘What is this? Why are they suddenly doing the Olympics and running hurdles and doing archery?’ That eventually became a fan signing event.”

Fans are disappointed, calling the cut scene a missed opportunity to capture an essential part of K-Pop culture.
The photos went viral online, sparking conversations about the ISAC’s legendary status.
