Two Russian tourists are under investigation for arson at Seoul Forest Park. The suspects, a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s, allegedly set fire to a walking trail and fled the scene on June 11 around 4:00 p.m.
Seongdong Police arrested the pair—only identified as Ms. A and Mr. B—on suspicion of arson. CCTV footage caught them lighting the fire, aiding police in locating and detaining them within 90 minutes.
The blaze damaged roughly 500 square meters of the trail. No injuries were reported. Firefighters contained the fire quickly, preventing further damage to the popular urban park.
Police requested a formal arrest warrant for Ms. A due to the deliberate nature of the act. Mr. B will be investigated without detention for now. Authorities are checking if either has prior criminal records or reckless travel behavior.
The Russian embassy in South Korea has been notified. Consular support is being arranged.
