G-Dragon faces a major initiative as the Seoul Metropolitan Government teams up with the K-pop star to tackle rising drug use among youth.
The collaboration centers around a talk concert held on June 23 titled, ‘Drug Eradication: A Promise for the Future – Safe Seoul Together.’ The event focused on creating a coordinated response to narcotics use in the city.
During the concert, a memorandum of understanding was signed involving key stakeholders. This includes the JusPeace Foundation, founded by G-Dragon, alongside the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the Seoul Office of Education, and others. Notably, Mayor Oh Se Hoon was present, showing strong support for the effort.
The JusPeace Foundation will launch joint anti-drug campaigns that blend art with public service. The aim? To boost awareness about addiction treatment and preventive culture among the youth.
Key goals include addressing the "golden hour" for treatment—an essential time for effective intervention. The organizations involved plan to offer immediate counseling and support for young users detected during police operations.
Typically, treatment only begins following legal processes, leading to delays in care. Seoul is set to enforce an early intervention model for those in immediate need.
The event aligns with the upcoming International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26. The campaign underscores Seoul’s commitment to a strong, structured strategy for prevention, care, and recovery.
Mayor Oh Se Hoon said:
"Seoul City, along with the police, education authorities, universities, medical institutions, and civil organizations, is not just engaging in administrative cooperation. We are pledging to become a protective shield for society. We will build a strong support network so that people who want to escape drug use no longer feel helpless."
With all this in motion, the collaboration is set to change the landscape of drug prevention in Seoul. Stay tuned for more updates on this important initiative.
