SEVENTEEN Dominates Japan with ‘HAPPY BURSTDAY’
SEVENTEEN (세븐틴) is on fire in Japan! Their fifth full-length album, ‘HAPPY BURSTDAY,’ has officially topped the Oricon Weekly Combined Album Ranking, marking the group’s 14th No. 1 win—an all-time record for international artists on the platform.
Oricon’s latest data reveals that SEVENTEEN achieved approximately 457,000 CD sales and racked up a whopping 467,000 points. This score is the highest for any overseas artist in 2023.
Furthermore, the group clinched the No. 1 spot on both the Weekly Album Ranking and the Weekly Digital Album Ranking—a complete sweep of all major charts.

Over on Billboard Japan, ‘HAPPY BURSTDAY’ debuted at No. 1 on the Top Albums Sales chart (tracking period: May 26 to June 1). The title track ‘THUNDER’ is making waves too, landing at No. 2 on the Hot Shot Songs chart and No. 12 on the overall Hot 100.
Released on May 26, the album sold over 2.52 million copies in its first week, making it the best-selling K-pop album of 2023 so far. ‘THUNDER’ also broke into the U.S. Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts shortly after, based on just four days of streaming and downloads.
