Song Ji Hyo, the beloved actress and ‘Running Man’ veteran, has recently embarked on a new journey that has transformed her perspective on life. Reflecting on her experience as a haenyeo (female sea diver), she shared that this adventure has led to a deeper appreciation for her everyday routine.
Debuting in 2001 as a magazine model, Song became a household name with her role in ‘Running Man,’ where she has entertained audiences for 15 years. Her engaging personality and memorable nicknames, like “Blank Ji Hyo” and “Songtoma,” have contributed to her status as a Hallyu star.
While her commitment to ‘Running Man’ continues, Song is also making waves in the business realm with her new underwear line. Although she expressed concerns over initial sales, appearing on Kim Jong Kook’s YouTube channel significantly boosted her business visibility.

In her recent documentary, Deep Dive Korea: Song Ji Hyo’s Haenyeo Adventure, which aired on May 15, the actress revisited her roots in Tongyeong, where her aunt was a haenyeo and her father owned a ferry company. Explaining her motivation, she stated, “It just felt like it was meant for me…” highlighting a desire to break free from the monotony of a routine she had grown comfortable with.

Song’s struggles with disillusionment in her career came to light as she remarked, “I realized I had so much, yet never recognized its value.” Her experience alongside the dedicated haenyeo has fostered a fresh sense of gratitude and reflection in her life.
Both her venture into business and her haenyeo experience signal a significant personal transformation for Song Ji Hyo, who is now embracing new challenges with enthusiasm. The documentary is a collaboration between JTBC and BBC Studios and will air as a three-part series every Thursday.
