Former Officer Sentenced to Prison for Sexual Assault
A former police officer has been sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor.
On September 23, 2025, the Seoul Northern District Court ruled against Mr. A, a 32-year-old sergeant at the Incheon Nonhyeon Police Station, who faced severe charges. The court mandated he undergo 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program and imposed a five-year employment restriction at institutions involving children and adolescents.
After the sentence was handed down, Mr. A left the courtroom in tears, his face buried in his hands.
The judge emphasized the severity of his actions:
“Considering the fact that the victim is a minor…his crime carries greater guilt, making corresponding punishment unavoidable.”
Mr. A was accused of meeting a teenager he communicated with via social media and sexually assaulting the victim in July of the previous year. He filmed the act with his phone. Following these events, he was dismissed from the police force, the harshest disciplinary action available.
In a plea for leniency, Mr. A highlighted the impact on his family:
“On the day I was arrested, I had to leave after seeing my baby, less than 60 days old, crying, without saying goodbye.”
Despite settling with the victim, who indicated a willingness to accept the compensation and requested a lighter punishment, Mr. A still faced judicial consequences. Prosecutors had originally sought a seven-year sentence, along with additional conditions including a disclosure of his personal information as a sex offender.
