Lee Jung-jae addresses ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 at press conference
Lee Jung-jae is gearing up for the release of Netflix’s highly-anticipated ‘Squid Game’ Season 3. At a press conference in Seoul on June 9, he opened up about the emotional journey of wrapping up his role as Seong Gi-hun.
With a robust cast, including Lee Byung-hun and Kang Ha-neul, Lee discussed Gi-hun’s transformation:
“This season is about Gi-hun rising from the guilt and despair of losing his friend Deok-su… it captures the shift in Gi-hun as he reaches a new resolution.”
Season 3 finds Gi-hun re-entering the deadly game, grappling with loss and searching for purpose. The narrative shifts from a quest to stop the game to self-reflection about his actions within it.
Lee acknowledged the expansive themes woven throughout the series.
“Managing everything from the overarching themes to the smaller stories in each episode… is one of the greatest achievements of the series.”
Looking back at the past five years, he expressed gratitude for the audience’s connection to different characters:
“I’ve noticed that everyone resonates with different characters and emotions… it’s deeply fulfilling to communicate with so many people.”
On viewer reactions, he stated:
