Seo Hyun Jin is facing financial fraud allegations.
The popular actress reported a massive loss after her landlord failed to return her substantial deposit on a villa in Gangnam, Seoul. According to NewsPirit, she filed for a court auction back in April 2023.
Seo Hyun Jin signed a lease for the property in April 2020, initially depositing ₩2.50 billion KRW (around $1.81 million USD). After renewing the lease in 2022, her deposit increased to ₩2.65 billion KRW (approximately $1.92 million USD). Despite registering her leaseholder rights, the landlord did not return the deposit when the lease expired in 2024.
Seo was forced to vacate and start auction proceedings to recover her money. The villa now has the unfortunate label of a “kkangtong house,” indicating its market value has plummeted.
The initial appraisal put the villa at just ₩3 KRW (effectively $0.00 USD), and it failed to attract bidders in the first auction round. The minimum bid has now been lowered to ₩2.30 billion KRW (about $1.66 million USD), still far less than her deposit. Experts are skeptical about any price recovery due to the downturn in Korea’s real estate market.
Seo Hyun Jin is expected to incur significant losses.
On a more positive note, she’s gearing up for the release of her upcoming K-Drama, Love Me, a Korean remake of the Swedish show of the same name.
