The father shot his son dead during a birthday celebration in Incheon on July 20, 2025.
The Yeonsu Police Station received a call from the son’s wife:
> “My father-in-law just shot my husband.”
The son, a man in his 30s, was found unconscious and rushed to the hospital. He later died after cardiac arrest.
The suspect, the victim’s father in his 60s, fled the scene but was caught three hours later in Seoul by special police units.
Residents near the Songdo International City apartment complex were shocked. One said:
> “I heard a loud bang out of nowhere… I can’t believe a shooting happened in Korea.”
Another added:
> “My hands are still shaking. I don’t understand how something like this could happen in our neighborhood.”
The shooting followed the father’s claim he was leaving to buy snacks, but he returned with a homemade firearm.
Police also found explosives at the suspect’s Seoul home. Over 100 residents were evacuated while special forces removed 15 cases of flammable materials, gasoline, timers, and improvised bombs.
Police say the motive remains unknown.
The suspect is now in custody as investigations continue.
