TWICE’s Sana is raising eyebrows after revealing that JYP Entertainment keeps her passport and alien registration card.
Sana spoke about this on Pink Cabinet with ILLIT‘s Minju. She explained the company holds on to her documents because she’s a foreigner, to avoid issues when leaving the country.
Sana said this caused problems for her when she went out and needed ID. Without proof of identification, she would search herself online to prove it was really her. That’s why she got her driver’s license—to have a proper ID.
The clip quickly spread online, sparking concern. Many fans found it odd and invasive that a company would hold a senior artist’s passport.

"an employer holding their employee’s passport and ID is fucked up wtf why is everyone treating this as quirky or funny"Twitter user @mapofthes0ul7:
"um this is worrying af actually"Twitter user @90sdreamgirl:
"this isn’t sitting right with me. why does the company keep her passport and ARC? it’s (apparently) illegal to not to carry your id."Twitter user @Yveseul_Manager:
"crazy that even though they are basically seniors in the industry their passports are still being held by the company like i understand why that would be necessary in some cases but it’s also so iffy to me…"
On the other hand, some defend JYP’s actions. They say keeping passports ensures safety and speed when idols travel abroad, especially since replacing documents overseas can take over two months.
Twitter user @_sachaaaaaaaa:
"if they get robbed or lose the id it could mean that they cannot travel or be a legal citizen for like 8+ weeks."Twitter user @lIldsunbae09:
"companies like JYP keep those passports for ease of travel… also a matter of security because there’s been instances of idols losing their passports while its in their possession"
