Disney+ drama Delusion’s filming crew is facing heat for illegally dumping trash in a Jeju Island forest.
After wrapping a late shoot, the crew allegedly left behind a large amount of garbage. Photos of the mess went viral, sparking major backlash online. Critics called out repeated irresponsible behavior by filming teams.
One netizen said:
“When controversy erupts, one team apologizes, but another team does the same thing—and it just keeps happening. Sanctions are needed to fix this.”
Another pointed to the director’s Jeju roots:
“What is up with poor management while filming in such a beautiful forest in Jeju? Shouldn’t filming in Jeju require even more care?”
Showbox, the production company, officially apologized to iMBC Entertainment:
“We weren’t able to thoroughly clean up the set when filming ended late, and it was dark. Recognizing the situation, we apologized and sought understanding from the set and related organizations. We immediately cleaned up the trash. Currently, everything has been cleaned up. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by our inability to clean properly after filming. We will be more thorough and cautious in the future.”
The fallout could turn legal. Article 8 of the Waste Management Act fines illegal dumping up to 1,000,000 KRW (~$720 USD). More serious is potential violation of the Hazardous Materials Safety Management Act, since hazardous items like butane gas were found.
Netizens say an apology won’t cut it:
“Crazy, this isn’t something you can just end after apologizing.”
“Do you think an apology is enough? They should be fined and punished.”
“Do you think filming makes you special?”
“They don’t even understand the basics…those punks.”
The controversy continues to gain traction as the production faces mounting pressure for accountability.
