VVS is making waves in the K-pop scene. The multinational girl group, produced by American hitmaker Paul Brian Thompson, is shaking things up with their hip-hop and R&B vibes.
They debuted in April with the hit track ‘TEA’, followed by the catchy ‘PURRFECT’. Just weeks later, they dropped their mini-album ‘D.I.M.M.’, packed with eight tracks. Fast-paced for a rookie group.
“We’re a hip-hop group,” the members stated. “In our music videos and trailers, you’ll even see blood. We’re focused on expressing our concept and energy, not just appearances.”
The title track ‘D.I.M.M.’ pays tribute to DJ DJ Screw with a heavy 808 beat and punchy rap verses. Paul Brian Thompson, known for hits with EXO and Taeyeon, is all in on originality.
Ailee, a member of VVS, said, “It’s rare to have an American CEO in K-pop. We learned about the culture and history behind hip-hop and R&B from the start.”
Some members weren’t well-versed in hip-hop before joining. Britney noted, “I liked R&B and rap, but didn’t know much.” Meanwhile, Lana shared, “I did hip-hop dance since I was a kid. Now that I’m performing the music I love, I want to do even better.”
They’re not slowing down.
“We recorded over 18 songs even before debut,” the members shared.
Britney said they practice about 8 hours a day year-round, even revealing she has “eight iPads full of practice videos.”
VVS is an acronym for “Very Very Slightly Included,” a reference to top-tier diamonds. A bold claim for a group aiming to shine in the industry.
Jiwoo expressed dreams of touring, particularly performing at Coachella, inspired by BLACKPINK Lisa. Britney aims for a Grammy and the Super Bowl halftime show.
“We’ll stay confident and take pride in everything we do,” they vowed. “I hope fans can see that in us.”
