Well-Known Idols Criticized Over “MAGA Hats” After BTS Jungkook Controversy

Popular Idols Called Out For "MAGA Hats" Following BTS Jungkook's Controversy

BTS Jungkook is facing backlash for wearing a hat with the message “Make Tokyo Great Again” before J-Hope’s concert in mid-June. The hat’s phrase is a spoof of MAGA (Make America Great Again), the slogan popularized by Donald Trump during his political career.

Soon after being spotted, Jungkook received criticism from netizens. He apologized and confirmed the hat had been disposed of.

This stirred comparisons between Jungkook and aespa Karina, who recently faced a politics-related scandal.

More idols are now under fire for similar hats. BTS’s RM was seen wearing a “Make Comedy Great Again” hat in a December 2023 Instagram post. aespa’s Giselle also owns the same hat and has been shown wearing it multiple times, including in a group YouTube video.

The hats’ spoof nature has sparked debate over their appropriateness, as many associate MAGA with negative political views.

Both RM and Giselle have faced criticism for their choice in headwear.
