Ahn Hyo Seop stirs buzz over KPop Demon Hunters sequel hopes after his character Jinu’s death
Sony’s KPop Demon Hunters exploded in popularity with millions hooked on its music and characters. Ahn Hyo Seop stars as Jinu, a 400-year-old demon-turned-idol haunted by his past.
Jinu’s story ended with a sacrifice to save humanity, sparking fan demand for his return. He initially targeted the girl group HUNTR/X for the villain Gwi Ma, but complications arose when demon hunter Rumi was revealed to be part demon.
After betraying Rumi, Jinu gave his soul to save her and others. The bittersweet finale left fans desperate for a sequel.
Voice actress Arden Cho, who plays Rumi, also wants Jinu back. In a recent Variety interview, she expressed hopes for his comeback.
Ahn Hyo Seop told US Today he’s a fan of Jinu and Rumi too.
“I stan them too,” Ahn said.
“I think it’s about the pain and the agony that they had. I feel like it’s about the company, like you can’t solve your problems alone. You have to have somebody beside you, and they had the biggest connection.”
He never expected Jinu to return given his sacrifice but welcomes the idea.
“I mean, Jinu gave his soul, so, like, I never really imagined how he would come back. As someone who loves Jinu as a fan too, of course I would love to see him come back. But it’s not up to me.”
Ahn hopes the franchise pushes people to accept their flaws and move forward.
“I hope that this franchise continues to inspire people to embrace their shadows and their flaws and be able to still move forward,” he said.
“I’m a big fan too now, so I’ll be waiting and cheering like everyone else.”
With multiple character deaths in KPop Demon Hunters, fans wonder who might return if sequels happen.
