IU is in the spotlight again as a Korean woman was fined for defaming her online—this marks a repeat offense.

On June 5, KST, News1 reported the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 20 fined Kim, a woman in her 40s, ₩3.00 million KRW (about $2,210 USD). Kim left sexually inappropriate and defamatory comments about IU on a portal site back in February 2024, accusing the singer of “bribing the judge” among other things.

Kim claimed in court her comments weren’t aimed at anyone specific and didn’t harm IU’s image. Judge Lim Jeong Bin rejected this defense.

Shockingly, Kim already faced a similar fine of ₩3.00 million KRW in December 2024 for malicious comments about IU’s looks and vocal skills. During that case, she pleaded for leniency citing mental illness affecting her communication.

The court noted the February offense actually happened before the December case was filed. Despite repeated fines, Kim showed no remorse or apology toward IU.

IU continues to face cyberbullying, despite strong legal steps from her agency.
